What’s wrong with changing requirements?

As consultants woking on a fixed time fixed price, we end up being vary hard on clients that want to change the requirements and scope of our work. The end result being our clients complain that we are way too rigid in the way we work. I tend to agree. We all acknowledge that the world we live in is constantly changing. Our client’s business is changing. Is it so unfair that on a 1 year project, the client now has new requirements? The real solution is not to push back, but to come up with an approach where new requirements can be adopted easily. I know that the word “agile” is thrown up everything people talk about changing requirements, but I haven’t read up sufficiently on the topic to agree or disagree that it is the solution. More later.
